our ongoing Thai adventure

Category: Parenting 101

We’re legally and morally responsible for little lives. If that doesn’t teach you something new, give up now! Here are our thoughts on perhaps the greatest adventure of all.

Our Daughter, the King of the Birds

On April 26 we welcomed our third child into this wondrous world of ours. She’s healthy and tenacious and generally stupendous! We love her dearly. Naming her was a journey, and though some may contend that a rose by any other name is still a rose, it took us the entire 9 months to name… Read More Our Daughter, the King of the Birds

The Basketball

There’s a joke about the evolution of parenting: new parents see their first child eat dirt and so they rush the child to the doctor only to be assured the child will in fact be fine. Time passes and they have a second child who, as so many children do, also eats dirt. The parents… Read More The Basketball

The Parental Party Line

7 weeks! That’s how long we have called Bangkok home. It feels exciting and unknown and increasingly familiar. Some days it feels like we were in Canada just yesterday and on other days, our Canadian life feels removed by years. As seems to be the case with most major life transitions, before it began we… Read More The Parental Party Line

Trading Black Bears for Monitor Lizards

Since arriving in Bangkok we have done a ton of exploring with our kids. We’ve checked out numerous parks and playgrounds, visited a variety of indoor play spaces, an incredible Children’s Museum and a water park. It’s been AWESOME! Bangkok has so much to offer families and we are so grateful for that. We are… Read More Trading Black Bears for Monitor Lizards

TCK’s Start at Home

TCK is a term now making regular appearances in our parenting conversations. It won’t be long now and we will be raising Third Culture Kids (TCK). Our little ones will never be fully Canadian as they grow up away from Canada, but they will never be fully Thai as they will come home to Canadian… Read More TCK’s Start at Home

First Love | Second Love

A Slovak, a Brit, and an Albertan walk into an apartment – this might sound like the start of a joke, but it was actually a visit we had this summer with dear friends we made in Slovakia. It was wonderful and life-giving to have friends from one chapter of our lives be present in… Read More First Love | Second Love

Packing up the Pipsqueaks

Our whole world changed in December of 2011 when Mr. Moo (the latest incarnation of our son’s nickname) entered the world. It was rocked again when Snicks (our daughter’s handle) joined Team Price in July of 2013. So with the two of them in the mix now, how does this impact the trajectory we believe… Read More Packing up the Pipsqueaks

Call me Mr.Mom – I Dare You!

With her Maternity Leave concluded one month early, Amber is back at work today after almost a year at home with the little humans. It’s going to be an adjustment for all of us. Today is the first day of this adjustment. So far, so good. When Amber accepted this job, one she identified as… Read More Call me Mr.Mom – I Dare You!

Love and the Second Child

“I don’t think I love her. Do I really feel that? Is that possible? She hasn’t even done anything to me yet” spluttered Matthew to Amber with a mix of panic and disbelief in his voice. At just hours old, our daughter, Zala Mateja, had spent a continuous hour in Matthew’s arms allowing Amber to… Read More Love and the Second Child

A Big Thought from our Little Man

Having a little human stresses us out sometimes – especially when he fails to realize our daily To Do List includes more than helping him organize toys for the chewing. There are things that need doing that are in direct competition with him for our undivided attention. Truly, dinner is not about to cook itself… Read More A Big Thought from our Little Man

Sometimes you just have to bring home ALL the teaching materials to make sure they’re really organized for Sunday School.
Each Christmas we send our @ccp_thailand team a gift as a little expression of how deeply we appreciate them. This stack of packages is about to go in the mail, but it’s the prep process we value as we pray for each team member and community as we get it all ready.
Showing off our strength with a group of great folks at OASIS.
Spent the morning with some of our @ccp_thailand team in Chiang Mai. We walked the laneways of one of the communities where we have sponsored children. We talked. Shared stories. It’s amazing to see the relationships the team has built over years. It’s a reminder that sponsorship is relational and not transactional.
Once a month, a lady from the refugee community cooks 30 meals for us to distribute. In the past, when visits to Immigration Detention Centres we’re still open, we’d take this home cooking into refugee detainees. We would give the food to people from the same@cultural background. With visitations still not possible, we took today’s food to a learning centre for refugee children. With no rights to work and no rights to education, refugees face everyday challenges. This food is a way for a woman to financially support her family while providing others with a taste of home. The pick-up and drop-off often take through all the back alleys of the city.
